According to Insurance Journal, 32-year-old Jose Campos, a former CT State Police trooper, of Winsted, CT was officially arrested by inspectors from the Workers’ Compensation Fraud Control unit in the Chief State’s Attorney’s Office, and charged last month for fraudulently collecting $8,341.00 in workers’ compensation benefits while employed with the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP).

Insurance Journal writes that Campos claimed, “he was struck on his lower back by a restroom door. He claimed that the door struck him with such force that it knocked him down to the floor and that he was further hit multiple times as others attempted to enter the restroom” while on duty at DESPP headquarters. Additionally, “Campos was placed on temporary total disability status, a wage replacement benefit paid by the employer’s workers’ compensation insurance carrier while the claimant is unable to perform any type of work due to a work-related injury or illness. He received $8,341.00 in replacement wages.”

The kicker? There were witnesses who contradict his claims.

As always, Campos is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
