In March of 2012, the trial for defendant Police Chief of 15 years, Ken Zisa of Hackensack, NJ, officially started. He had been suspended from the force and charged with insurance fraud and official misconduct in 2010.
According to an article in Insurance Journal, Zisa allegedly helped his girlfriend, who had supposedly been under the influence, leave a motor vehicle accident in which he then filed a fraudulent insurance claim. “Zisa also is accused of covering up an investigation stemming from a 2004 assault and robbery in which his girlfriend’s sons were suspects.”
Immediately following the trial, jurors deliberated for three days, concluding that Zisa committed insurance fraud and tampered with investigations involving the girlfriend, but he was acquitted of “conspiracy and witness tampering.”
Ultimately, looking at a minimum sentence of 23 years in prison, no possibility to be considered for parole for at least 15 years, and possible surrendering of his pension, justice has been served.
