Insurance Journal states that a New Jersey public adjuster pleaded guilty to stealing $42,000 from insurers and clients. Sheena Clark, 59, of Bergen County, NJ billed for services that were never completed, and kept the money. She has pleaded guilty to third-degree insurance fraud.
Between the dates of July 31, 2005 and August 13, 2010, Clarke submitted false property damage claims to Philadelphia Contributorship Insurance Company, the Germantown Insurance Company, Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, and Western World Insurance Company. The claims were to pay for damage to property, but repairs had never been made.
Clarke will be sentenced on September, 28, 2012, and will need to surrender her public adjuster license, may be paying $42,519 in restitution, and a civil penalty of $5,125 to the Department of Banking and Insurance.
