NICB Identifies a 2020 Auto Crime Increase in New Edition of “The Informer"

The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) has released a new edition of its publication, “The Informer,” which highlights 2020’s sharp increase in vehicle crime, and the motivations behind it.

David Glawe, NICB President and CEO, states, “The pandemic has had a significant impact on society. Auto thefts have increased across the U.S. in almost every major city. Carjackings in major metropolitan areas such as Washington D.C., New York City, and Chicago are seeing major increases. As we examine in this issue, there are other, more systemic causes for the increase in thefts beyond individuals simply leaving their keys or fobs in their vehicles.”

The NICB is an excellent resource for the insurance industry to identify trends and emerging threats, and one resource we keep up on so we know what we’re going to be up against in preparation!

What you’ll read about in this edition:

- Auto thefts

- Carjackings

- Auto glass fraud

- Catalytic converter thefts

- And more!
