Insurance Fraud Indictment for New Jersey Motorcyclist who Fraudulently Reported Parts Stolen
According to Insurance Journal and the New Jersey Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor, Lew Alicock of Woodbridge, NJ was arrested last month in connection to fraudulent reports he had made to insurers claiming parts of his Yamaha motorcycle were stolen on two occasions. The indictment issued by New Jersey Acting Attorney General, John J. Hoffman and the New Jersey Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor explains that Alicock contacted his insurer, Pacific Specialty Insurance Company, in May of 2013, claiming that he left his motorcycle at his mother’s home in Irvington, NJ, left for a work trip, and upon his return, parts of his Yamaha motorcycle had been stolen. Pacific Specialty Insurance Company issued a $5,512.96 check to Alicock in July of 2013 to cover the “stolen parts.” The check was then cashed from Alicock’s bank. Only one month later, Alicock contacted Pacific again in an effort to get them to reissue the check to both the repair shop and himself. At this time, Pacific ordered to stop the check, which was repaid by the bank in full. Alicock had insufficient funds in his accounts and the bank was unable to recover the full amount. The check was reissued to both Alicock and the repair shop in September 2013, but this time, it was cashed at a different bank. An investigation ensued and developed that Alicock had taken his motorcycle to the repair shop in May of 2013 and requested that the mechanic remove specific parts (some of several that he had reported stolen), paid for the removal, then came back only two days later and requested the parts to be reassembled. Alicock tried again 6 months later in November 2013, using the same process with the same repair shop, but this time, the potential victim was Rider Insurance. Luckily, Rider denied the claim. Alicock has been charged with second-degree insurance fraud, third-degree theft by deception, and third-degree forgery. Source
