Fraudulent Auto Insurance Claims Land PA Woman in Jail

Shaminga L. Davis of Morrisville, PA was sentenced late last month to 4 to 23 months in county jail for a string of 8 fraudulent auto insurance claims ranging from 2016 to 2018 totaling approximately $40,000 from two separate auto insurance companies.
An investigation by a Bucks County District Attorney’s Office detective revealed that Davis submitted 8 claims between the dates of March 4, 2016 to March 9, 2018. Seven of those claims were submitted to State Farm, and one was submitted to Geico under a policy she took out utilizing her ex-boyfriend’s identity.
According to Insurance Journal, “the investigation also found that some of the claims were duplicates of earlier claims. Many times, after Davis was issued a payment, she would contact the insurance company saying she never received the payment. The insurance company would then send her a second payment. The investigation found that she did receive the original checks and cashed or deposited both checks.”
Davis pleaded guilty to insurance fraud and theft by deception in January 2021. Furthermore, she also pleaded guilty in a retail theft case, and in addition to her stint in county jail, will spend 5 years on probation.
